Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts
Wrongfull Termination
I was injured on the job. After almost two years my doctor said I could return to work. I was told I had to get an OK from the company doctor. He saw me for 15 min. and then I recieved a letter from my boss saying I could not return and I was terminated. I worked for a Municipal Light Department as a line foreman for 15 years. I was told by one of the commissioners two days after the accident to "take all the time I needed and don't worrie no one will be working alone anymore."
Was it legal to fire me?
Do I have a case against them for working alone and or firing me?

Re: Wrongfull Termination
To answer your question, an attorney needs to meet with you and discuss your employment agreement, whether you are in a union or not, what your work history had been, and what you are doing now. For example, if you were wrongfully fired, but got a job the next day making twice as much, you might be able to sue, win, and be awarded nothing -- and get to pay your attorney a lot of money for taking the case. That is no bargain.
From what you said in your question, the case is worth looking into to see if the damages warrant the filing of suit. If the company was a city or town, you may have a time limit in which to file your complaint. Do not delay..
