Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

I agee to give my landlord 700 to hold a apartment because when i came in too sign the lease i didnt have the money i said would. so i said i will give 700 to i get the rest. he didnt want to do this unless i agreed to sign a document say he could keep the money if i didnt move in by the first of the month and i did sign. can i get my money back or is it legally his?

You should have consulted an attorney before entering a contract. I think you have lost $700, but it would depend on the exact terms of your agreement. If the money was a deposit to hold the apartment for you, and the landlord lived up to his end of the agreement, then I think he has a good argument for keeping it.
