Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

carpet charges

i swaped apartments in same community. while moving i had discussion with leasing agent abt carpet washing and cleaning apartment. they said i need not wash the carpet and they would any way wash it before letting new people in.

after 1 month i got a 1000$ bill for carpet replacement of old apartment, when i went and asked property manager she said she could do nothing as it is irrepariable. i asked if they tried cleaning before replacing, she said they did not and its professional judgement.

is there any way i can pursue these charges?

Re: carpet charges

The issue is not whether the carpet needed replacement, the issue is was it damaged beyond normal wear and tear and how old was the carpet in the first place. If you lived in the apartment for 5 years and the carpet was 10 years old, the carpet had served its useful life and you should not have to pay for its replacement.

If you stained the carpet or abused it in some fashion, you may be responsible, but you need to know how old the carpeting was and what the depreciated value was.

It is an argument to fight personally not with an attorney, good luck
