Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

Forced to Leave Apartment

I am a tenant at will through the lease holder. I received a ''Termination of Tenancy'' on 17th of January 2009, from the lease holder, stating I am here by required to leave within 42 days or the end of my next monthly rent period. Today, I receive an undated note, from a tenant (none lease holder), inquiring about February's rent, consequence of not paying requires us to leave in two weeks, finally to let her know ASAP. Which letter am I suppose to follow?

Re: Forced to Leave Apartment

My advice would be to follow neither and speak with an attorney immediately.

An attorney can protect your rights and deposits, and probably enable you to stay in the apartment long enough to find new suitable housing.

Retain an attorney to review both letter's and explain your rights to you.

Good Luck!
