Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts
Friends for the weekend
I have a tenant who allows her son to bring 1,2, or 3 friends over for the weekend. They come friday afternoon and go home late Sunday afternoon. I do not like it. She says the law says there is nothing I can do about it. Is this true.

Re: Friends for the weekend
Unless the friends are causing a problem or a nuisance, there is virtually nothing you can do. The nuisance needs to be real or a threat to the safety, health or quite enjoyment as a result of an overt action, they smoke pot, they play loud music and drink all the time, they threatend you or your guests.
Absent an overt act that creates a problem for other tenants or neighbors you cannot do much about it. You can of course refuse to renew her lease, but be careful as to the reason you are doing it.
