Housing situation
I live with one other person, on a lease. I owe almost $7,000 in back rent, but I want to break the lease, and move into my own apartment. Do I have any options into making a plan to pay off the back rent, and then move into my own residence?

Based on your limited description and subject to actually seeing your lease, you can negotiate with the Landlord and if enters into an agreement with you, you can do whatever you want.
The other person can do what they want with respect to the lease. I assume you have been sent a 14 day notice to quit by now. It is cheaper for an Landlord to get you out by agreement than by going through an entire eviction process.
