Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

A former landlady has filed a claim against me in small claims court. There is no indication as to what the particular issue is about nor is there a monetary amount indicated. I've tried to contact this person to see what the exact problem was and how much money was involved, but have yet to receive any response from her. I called the Clerk's office and they couldn't tell me anything either. Don't I have the right to know what's in store before I go to court? I plan on disputing this claim as I do not believe I've done anything wrong. And this particular landlady has a past history of taking former tenants to court. What happens next?

This sounds strange.

The court should have mailed you a copy of the Notice of Small Claim together with a summary of her claims. You should contact the clerk and verify your address with them. If she has filed against you, and you did not receive it, simply ask the clerk to fax or mail you another copy.

You may also consider hiring representation.
