Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

My Landlord asked my neighbor the other day to give some form of proof of her boyfriends residency elsewhere, is that legal for a landlord to do and is the tenant legally obligated to furnish that information.The boyfriend has his own residence but visits and occationally stays over night, I know times are tight but is that any of the landlords business the property is in house section eight and the landlord is asking for a copy of his lease and a reference and a phone number of his landlord which I think is extreme, do we all have to supply information on our visitors at will when they are private citizens or do we give up tha right living in subsidized housing?

The rights of a landlord to ask for such information are created by the lease. The lease should be examined to see what it says. Since you indicate that this is subsidized housing, the lease probably has some language that allows the landlord to inquire.
