Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

What do you do if landlord is still retailating?

We called the board of health on our landlord. She was sited for many violations. Since then we have been evited and have to leave by the end of July. She has now shut off the electric on us even though the common areas are on our electric we had to switch it into our name. Again we called the board of health and she was sited for that. We are constantly harrassed by her and her family. They have kicked the door of our storage unit in breaking the lock, her brother has threatened us with physical violence, comments are made to our children (12yrs., 9yrs., and 8yrs.) and her sister has even gone as far as to follow my husband to work to find out where he works. We do not have many options. We have had the police here many times and they are doing nothing. We would like to know if there is any other legal things we can do. We have had to spend money that we saved to move on the things because of the landlord and need more time on the eviction and we just want them to leave us alone and to stop this. Please help, we don't know where else to turn.

Contact an attorney to defend you in the eviction action and ask what your remedies are for such retaliation which may include recovery of your attorney's fees under the Consumer Protection Law. Also ask whether criminal complaints may be sought through the District Attorney's Office or directly from the Court. Good Luck.
