Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

Landlord selling building

What will happen to the tenants when a building is sold? Most of them are tenant at will at this point. If a landlord rewrites a lease and the tenant doesn't agree to the new terms and doesn't sign are they considered tenant at will?

Re: Landlord selling building

If you are a tenant at will and the building is sold, you will continue to be a Tenant at Will. The new landlord can ask you to sign a new lease, give proper notice of raising rent, et cetera.

You do not have to agree, but at that point the Landlord will have the choice of evicting you and you can argue your case in Housing Court. If you go to Mass Trial Law Libraries there is a great deal of information on Tenants rights
