if you are being evicted by your landlord and you fill out an application for a new place to rent is it legal for a landlord to give you a bad reference when you are trying to find a place to live when they are evicted you

It is legal for the Landlord to state the fact he is evicting you if he is asked.

Anyone asked for information may lawfully provide true information unless some other agreement or principal forbids same. I am not aware that it would be considered illegal to truthfully state that an eviction proceeding is ongoing, nor the truthful and factual reasons for seeking the eviction.
