Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts
Hello, I live in Massachusetts. I live in a single family home with my aunt and uncle and cousin. After I lost my job there was a verbal agreemant to work off my room and board in lieu of payment by taking care of the house, property, and her bed ridden, debilitated husband in which I was very active and successful in doing. We had a "falling out" about something that was not related to what I was doing for work (it was a major difference in opinion). Am I entitled to the same eviction law(s) as say, someone whom is paying rent in an apartment? Also, she knowingly moved my clothing and other articles into her basement that has a mold problem that has not yet been corrected, damaging some artcles of clothing, before I got home from the hospital, does she have that right? Thank you!

It sounds like your situation is more like that of roommates and since you do not have lease and they own the house (assuming they do) then they can evict you under a 30 day notice to quit. No reason is necessary as they are the landlord. Then they must serve you with a summary process complaint so the period of time is likely 50 days or so. You do have a right to file a counterclaim on the damage to your belongings.
