Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

I live in massachusetts.My landlord does not put salt down or shovel the steps.The plow driver does not get out of his truck and does not come until the storm is over and if we get 6 inches or less he does not plow.Are there any laws that pertain to this?

Yes, landlords are required to clear snow and ice from all common entrances and exits that are used in common by tenants and are not used exclusively by only tenants of a single apartment unit. Consider retaining an attorney if necessary. Good Luck!

Under the state sanitary code, unless there is a written letting agreement that specifies that the tenant must remove snow and ice, the landlord must maintain all means of egress in a safe condition free of snow and ice. There is no requirement that the snow be removed as it falls. Generally this is interpretted to mean that the snow and ice must be removed within a reasonable period after falling.
