Mass. Late fees

When I signed my lease my landlord wrote there was a late fee if rent was not paid by the 7th. After a couple of months of paying rent on the third and fourth she demanded the late fee even if I was 3 days late. I have paid her is this legal ? Can I get this money back for the months I paid before the 7th?

Landlords can not charge late fees unless the payment is 30 days late.
