neighbors property

Are you allowed so many feet on your neighbors property to set up ladders when you are hiring a contractor to paint or roof your house, and has to put the ladders there in order to do the job

I suppose, technically, doing so without obtaining the neighbor's consent could be trespassing. But why in the world wouldn't you simply ask the neighbor politely for permission to let your contractor stage his ladder on the neighbor's property???

Isn't this just everyday, common sense? Even in this day and age people still need to speak to one another, at least every once in a while. Why even ponder the legality of something like this?
