Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

previous roommate took posession of my belonging

I appreciate your help!

I left a dryer (in working condition) at my previous rented apartment because the truck I used to do the moving didn't have enough space to take the dryer. I told my previous roommate that I will return to pick up the dryer a few days later. She agreed. But for three times now, I contacted her to set up a time for the pick-up, she ignored my email and messages. I also emailed the landlord about it but he ignored my email as well. I don't owe any rent or bills for the apartment so I don't understand why they won't let me get my dryer back. What legal steps can I take to get my dryer back? Could I do it without having to spend more money than the value of the dryer?

You should send a letter indicating that you have NOT abandoned the property, and that you will arrive at such and such a time on such and such a date. Send it by PRIORITY MAIL WITH DELIVERY CONFIRMATION TO EACH and TRACK THE DELIVERY. Advise them that you will expect someone available to let you in at that date and time (choose a reasonable weekend date and time). Copy the police department in the town.

I suspect that you will suddenly get cooperation.

I am available for additional consultation.
