Rental lease

If i am transfered to another country for my job and do not get a release paper from my landlord, what problems will that cause for me? It is a one year lease and i am into it noe for six months. I have prepaid last months rent. When i eventualy leave thered will be about five months left to my lease. Thank you in advance.

Massachusetts law provides that the landlord of a residential unit must make reasonable efforts to find a new tenant if the lease is broken. This is the obligation to mitigate. If you give the most notice possible, your landlord should be able to find a tenant unless he or she fails to mitigate. I generally recommend 60 days notice in such matters.

As a practical matter, if you are going to be overseas, the landlord will have a hell of a time collecting from you even if he/she DOES get a judgment for the remaining rent.
