Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts
My room mate moved out and left a basement full of his stuff. How long do I have legally before I can get rid of it?

If it was your room mate and the two of you were tenants to another person (i.e. your landlord) talk to your landlord, and ask the landlord to remove the property. Massachusetts law provides fairly specific requirements for landlords with respect to a tenant who moves out or is evicted and leaves property behind. If you are the landlord, you will need to comply with these laws. Take a look at M.G.L. c. 239 4, this may shed some light on it for you. If you (as landlord) or your landlord has to start a summary process eviction, it is a good idea to get an attorney.
