Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

My small claims case was not treated fairly

I was sued by a former landlord in small claims court. I sent a whole pile of paperwork in to the court to support my case.

When my case was called the magistrate had not even reviewed any of the information. There were around a dozen e-mails, signed documents the landlord agreed to but did not fulfill his obligations on and he was lying through his teeth the whole time, I had the proof to refute what he was saying, but wasn't allowed to present it. Major appliances did not work, the place was supposed to be 3 bedroom, but after moving in we found out we could only use 2.

The magistrate did not even look at 75% of the information I provided to support my case.

What do I do now?

I feel I was rail roaded out of the court room and no one even cared what I had for proof because they didn't allow me to present it before making a decision in the landlords favor.

Re: My small claims case was not treated fairly

You may have had certain counterclaims and defenses available to you. Honestly, if you think you had any shot at all of winning, you probably should have hired an attorney.
