Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

I am a tenant of an apartment in salem ma. I am using my security deposit to pay for my second to last month rent and my last month rent that was paid in advance to pay the last. We had a management company seperate from the landlord that we worked with but the house is being sold and the management company is no longer working for my land lord. The security deposit was not put in to a second account like it is suppose to be and we never recieved a recipt of that. Is it ok for me to tell my land lord to use my security deposite for second to last month rent?
