Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

Utility Bills

I rented an apartment with roommates and the Electricity bill was in my name. Now I am moving out and the former roommates won't put the bill in their name. Can I still Have the Electricity company no longer bill electricity in my name?

Re: Utility Bills

Yes. You should advise the electric company that you are no longer paying the bill as of a date certain (about 5 days from the day you mail the bill). Do this in writing, preferably by certified mail. Mail a copy to your former room-mates.

You will still be responsible for bills prior to the date you effectively shut off the electric.
