Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

Writing on a Check

We are moving and want as much of our deposit back as possible. We were warned by people who just moved from here that the management company tried to keep their whole deposit. Someone suggested sending our last month's rent in 2 parts, and to write on the check covering the deposit amount that we assume since they just inspected the place a few months ago and found nothing wrong that we will be getting most of the deposit back. Have you any suggestions as to where to write it and how to phrase it? Thank you! Janet

Re: Writing on a Check

If the landlord did not have you sign a written statement of condition when you moved in or failed to comply with any other requirements of the security deposit law you may be entitled to demand return of your full security deposit. Retain an attorney to review this. Good Luck!
