Legal Question in Personal Injury in Massachusetts
Burn injury at place of employment
While repairing a valve on top of an autoclave at my employers site, I was burned on the underside of my forearm by touching a steam pipe.
The steam had been turned off prior to working near it. While turning a wrench, it slipped and my arm contacted the steam pipe which was still very hot.
There is insulation on the pipe leading to the area where I was working but ended long before the area that is accesible on top of the autoclave.
The burn was not treated by a doctor, which appeared to be a serious 1st degree burn, but it looks like I will have a scar about 1'' by 3''.
Is there any compensation available by my employer to compensate me for being scarred.
It would appear that since there wasn't any insulation on the steam pipe I could not help burning myself.
