Legal Question in Personal Injury in Massachusetts

Injured on the job
I fell off a ladder and severely strained my mcl in my knee. At the time of the injury i was working as a 1099 employee for a building contractor. This contractor never asked me for liability insurance, which i did not have.
The injury was diagnosed by a local hospital. I stayed out of work for 2 days. I returned to work with SEVERE physical limitations. This contractor never offered any pay for the missed time, nor for the hosptial visit. 2 weeks later i was laid off and still limping from the knee injury. I only returned to work because i had no other options (to provide for my family). I wasn't offered any light duty work. Due I have any recourse in this matter?

Falling off a ladder is a tricky situation. There are a number of different possibilities depending on the specific facts.

Remember there is a difference between an independent contractor and an employee. You cannot be a 1099 employee.

It sounds like you have a workers compensation claim agaisnt the contractor.
