Legal Question in Personal Injury in Massachusetts

libelous email

My fiance, a teacher, has been informed by her principal of an email circulating through the PTO and district claiming she was a former ''mud-wrestler and stripper'', neither of which are true, and demanding action by the school board. The email is anonymous, but it claims to be written by the father of one of her previous students.

At what point does an investigation and lawsuit for libel become warranted? My first guess is that the school board laughs at the email and throws it away, but she still feels victimized by the whole thing..

Re: libelous email

Life is full of choices. The decision whether or not to pursue a lawsuit depends: you hae to identify the sender, you have to check if s/he has assets sufficient to pay a judgment, you have to get involved in the long process associated with your case proceeding through the courts at its very slow pace.

If you identify the author, you certainly have a case, it's your decision what to do aobut it. A consultation with an attorney would be a good idea.
