Legal Question in Personal Injury in Massachusetts
I was planning to start a new job that I'd already applied for and been accepted. It was a particularly important position in that it afforded my husband and me health insurance. Days before the start date I received a phone call stating that the job was no longer available. The reason I was given for terminating my employment before it began is as follows: It seems that my previous employer whom I had a dispute with was in some way related to my potential employer and called my potential employer defaming my name and character. The results were that: 1) I had lost the opportunity to be employed for other positions that I had applied for 2) an incredible financial burden and 3) my inability to procure another job in the food/restaurant business due to the negative rumor mongering instigated by my previous employer. Does the above information give me cause to file a suit again my previous employer for his/her character assassination.

You might have a claim, but no reputable attorney could give you any sort of guarantee and those who make promises should be looked at as suspect. If you are serious about this you should speak to 2-3 lawyers (in person) who actually are actual trial lawyers who have tried employment cases and then decide whether you want to accept the terms proposed and go forward. Lawsuits are expensive and typically take a long time and a lot of your time, energy and attention. Good luck, JBS
