John Doe,a college student famous in town for his sports and political aspirations, is running for student body president of XYZ college. The other candidate, Mike Smith, makes an untrue statement that John Doe has hiv. John Doe ends up losing the race. Can John Doe sue for slander? Is he considered a public figure because he is known throughout his community as being a local hero?
