Legal Question in Personal Injury in Massachusetts

Slanderous Accusations

A neighbor in a small rental community has been telling people that I like to take pictures of 'young boys' and am a pervert. I have witnesses to this. I wish the neighbor to retract these statements or I will possibly pursue a slander suit. Is sending a 'intent to sue' letter requesting verbal retraction and/or a cease/desist letter an adequate first step? If not what is my course of action? Thanks.

Re: Slanderous Accusations

Even a retraction would not undue the personal and social damage that you have suffered. You are confusing a retraction request with that which is sent to a newspaper. While it can do no damage, it may not cure the problem. If you are serious about taking such an action, you should consier consulting an attorney, who can analyze the posture of this situation, and then advise you of the options. You can also call my office, and I will discuss this with you.
