abandoment law in massachusetts

i had a roomate leave in november..we had leased the apartment in september 2008 till 2009 he left early and payed the fees to elave and hasnt been back and i havent heard from him since dec3 2008...he left all his stuff in the apartment and i need to be out by feb 28th..do i now own this stuff legally? can i leave it there and him get charged or do i get charged again for not moving out on time?

Without seeing your lease, I would guess you will be charged as well as he will be. I would send him a letter (return receipt) asking him where to send his stuff or does he want you to toss it. Assuming you get a reply I would act accordingly.

if no answer, I would pack up his stuff and either ship it to him collect at his last known address or just take it with you and send him a letter to arrange to pick it up.
