Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

Eviction Terms

Just recently the three family house from which my mother has an apartment in was sold. The new owner of the house have told my mother that they want her out in one month. They also say that they are going up on her rent which is due in six days. First my mother never new that the former owners had sold the property until the new owners asked her to leave. Also, only one month from which to secure an apartment seems almost impossipble given that they never gave her written notice to move or that they had intentions on raising the rent. The new owners made a comment that when they agreed to buy the property from the former owners, the agreement was that the occupents would be gone. But know one told the occupents of the apartments including my mother. There was never a for sale sign out front and know one came to talk to my mother about selling and moving until the property was sold. Does she have rights? What can she do?

Re: Eviction Terms

Have her contact an attorney who knows landlord / tenant law.

Of course she has rights. I usually see this as a good opportunity and I love to take these cases. What city is she in? If I can't take the case because it's too far, I may be able to refer you to someone who can.

Re: Eviction Terms

I agree with attorney Williams, your mom certainly has rights.

It does not matter that the new owner bought the property with

the understanding that all tenants would be removed.

Call if you are located in the North Shore Area and would like to discuss this matter further.
