If my house was listed as having five bathrooms and only has one, can I get reimbursed for the taxes I have paid for nine years on five bathrooms?

I am sorry to inform you that you can not go back and regain the money you paid on real-estate tax. You maybe able to get an abatement going forward.

I was an Assessor for the Town of Swampscott many years ago and I vaguely remember that, depending upon the reason for the descrepancy in the Assessor's records and whether or not you should have been aware of this problem earlier, you may be able to go back 3 years. If you don't want to hire legal counsel (and frankly, it may not be worth it financially), I recommend that you schedule a meeting with one of the Assessors (not a Clerk in the office nor a private contractor). Good luck!
