How long of a waiting period is there when a customer plans to purchase a home and then they have to cancel the sale , then they want to buy the same house 6 months later. Do I still have to pay the commision to that realtor that showed the home when I don't have that same realtor any more?

It is not usually quite that simple. Let's start with the provisions in your listing agreement. They usually provide for a protection for the broker for six months after the listing expires for buyers they showed you.
However, it can be longer or shorter depending upon the time frame listed in your listing agreement.
Likewise, you cannot conspire with the buyer to wait until the listing and the 6 months period lapses. If as a practical matter the Buyer comes to you six months more or less afterward (assuming the std 6 month language) then you can sell and avoid brokerage fees.

You should retain an attorney to review the terms of your listing contract(s) to advise as to your obligations under each to the respective realtors based on the specific facts in your situation.
