Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts
My husband and I just bought a house in July. After a home inspection we discovered the electrical circuit breakers needed to be upgraded.... the original home owners installed an outdoor pool and central air all on a 100 amp service. They had their electrician assure us that everything was up to code and installed correctly. We signed the house papers in the begining of July. We now have an issue with the electrical- the main breaker has blown and an electrician has informed us that the service needs to be upgraded to a 200 amo service to make everything run. Right now i have just a few lights working and heat and hot water... my question is do we have any legal recourse to have the previous owners pay something for the upgrade to make everything in the house up to code, or have we washed them of all legal responsibilty when we signed the papers?

You do have legal recourse. If the sellers and their electrician assured you the house electrical system was up to code, you have the right to have it made so.
