Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

Joint ownership of a house.

My father is looking to put our house

under his and my name. The reason

for this is that he wants to prevent his

new wife from owning the house after

his death. What does this entail and

should he do this?

Re: Joint ownership of a house.

Be careful. If the house is his only asset then his new wife may still have an interest in the property upon his death. I would need to know more information before saying if it a wise decision or not.

Re: Joint ownership of a house.

If you wish to go forward, this would entail drafting a new deed from your father to you and your father, and recording it with the appropriate court.

As was mentioned earlier, this may not be the best course of action, adn there may be other options to explore.

Please let me know if you (or more appropriately, your father) would like assistance with this matter.
