Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts
Landlord reneg on deal
Two years ago we answered an ad for a lease with an option. A portion of our rent went into a savings to be used towards the downpayment should we decide to purchase. Towards the end of the first year, our landlord decided to put both her properties up for sale. She had a realtor evaluate the house and informed us of her asking price. She asked for a firm committment from us otherwise she would put the for sale sign up in front of the house. We gave her an oral committment to complete the sale at the end of the second year of our lease. She agreed that she would hold our mortage for the first five years then we would be responsible to refinance. Our lease is up in October, today she informed us that she has an interested party for her home value $300,000. She has no where to go and therefore will not sell us the house or renew the lease. We can be tennants at will until her house is sold. She has had over a year to determine where she would live. We are a family of 6 including a physically disabled daughter. There was never a P&S signed. What are our options?

Re: Landlord reneg on deal
Send me the ad plus any written communications you have had since that time. (Don't send me originals: either mail me a copy or send me faxes of the originals, to (617)527-1763.
After sending me documents to look at, call me.
If you are not near me (Norfolk, Worcester, Middlesex, Suffolk or Bristol County, I guess), do same with an attorney near you or contact me to help you find one.
This sounds like a pretty good case for an attorney to handle, no good for you to handle yourself.
