Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts
Landlord out of state
I live in Massachusetts. I have an out of state landlord who wants me to mail my rent check to her daughter who is in the same state as me. The rent checks are not being deposited immediately and my landlord is complaining to me. Do I have to mail the checks to the daughter or can I mail them directly to my landlord in Florida to get to them by the 1st of the month?

Re: Landlord out of state
Normally, you pay as directed by your landlord. Although it is an extra cost to you, you could certainly send your check by Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation, which gives you proof of when you mailed it and when it was delivered. You could try doing this a few times and see if it corrects the problem.
If this is not the problem, you might try talking with the daughter. One would assume that you can be certain that the delay in the deposits is on the daughter's end, and not on the mother's end.
