Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

I live in MA and am a first time buyer. We are arranging the attorneys to draft the P&S, our attorney is billing us for the time taken answer emails, calls etc. Is this normal? Or is it usually one set fee?

Many attorneys will do this work on a flat fee basis, up to a certain number of hours. Many other will simply do the work hourly. You should have discussed this with your attorney before hiring him or her, and this should have been made clear to you.

Attorneys do this either as a flat fee up for certain range of work up to a certain number of hours or by the hour. Most attorneys will provide you with a good faith estimate or range of cost for their time. You and the attorney should have agreed on this procedure up front with an understanding of the cost.
