Most likely, nothing will happen to you and your wife. However, the estate may incur considerable expenses in storage or disposal fees. Any expenses or claims against the estate would come directly out of any inheritance you or your wife might receive (or have already received). You may want to speak with a lawyer before taking this sort of action.

I would suggest that you make arrangements to dispose of her things through the Administrator or Exexcutor of her estate. If she has no assets only her personal belongings, there will be an action by the landlord to terminate her lease and put her things in storage.

I would suggest you contact an attorney for assistance before doing anything. If she has nothing but her clothes and furnishings, well not much will happen. If she has a other assets, the landlord will seek to make a claim against the estate for the cost of having to go to court to get rid of the stuff.
