If you leave your belongings, then the landlord does not have possession of the unit. He would have to go to court and evict you. You could pay for additional rent, court costs, attorney fees, and the cost of removal and storage of your belongings. I strongly recommend that you find a way to get the items out of the appartment. If you want to abandon them, put an add in Craig's List and give it away for free or contact a charity and see if they will take it.
