Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

I moved out of my apartment after my roommates found a subletter for my room and assured me that he was all paid up with our landlord, the day he was due to move in he backed out and apparently had never paid a dime. My former roommates want me to pay the portion of the rent they assured me he had paid because I am on the lease and we are jointly and severally bound. What is my liability?
