Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

neighbor's land

We have using a piece of my neighbor's land for over 10 yrs. now. He has since died and the land has been sold to a new owner. The previous owner was about to sign the piece over to us when he became sick and died. Do we have any rights to this land as we have developed (cleared it) it and still use it to this day? There was a blueprint done (with the prefious owners name on it) to show the portion of land we were suppose to get. Thank you for your response.

Re: neighbor's land

Unless you have a signed agreement, you do not have a legal right to the property.

Re: neighbor's land

There is such a thing as rights to land by adverse possession if you can prove 20 years of open use against the interests of the lawful owner(s). Consult an attorney who can better tell you whether the facts in your case give you such rights by adverse possession. Good Luck.
