What are the prerequesites for a loan modification

There are no clear definitions as to what qualifies for loan modification. I've been down this road many times before. The one prerequisite is that you be two months in arrears before anybody will even talk to you. In my dealings with loan modifications it seems to be more like a roll of the dice and if a lucky number happens to be yours the bank approves the modification. I have seen people pay thousands of dollars and get nowhere and people who work paid $100 and get a modification. There is no rhyme or reason in the fees can be costly. If you find yourself in this predicament my suggestion is find a reputable firm and use your resources to find the firm's success rate.
