My tenants are moving out in Boston, MA and want to be reimbursed for the heating oil in the tank. Am I required to by law to reimburse them?

Re: Real Estate Rental

I am not aware of such a law, but I have not researched it. You could certainly propose that they seek reimbursement from replacement tenants, or assuming heat is the responsibility of the tenants under the lease, build into the lease that the tenants are receiving a full tank of oil, and collect that as part of the leasing process, and then use those proceeds to pay the departing tenants. (Did they receive a tank with heating oil when they began as tenants?)
