what happens if we rewrite a mortgage in my husbands name only if my name is on the title for the house and something happens to my husband

As long as you don't change the title to the property, there will be no change.

I assume you mean that your husband is signing the note and the Mortgage will be in both your names as joint title holders.

In the event your husdand dies, you will need to work things out with the lender or refinance. However, as far as your rights in the property nothing changes.

Assuming your husband predeceases, you his estate would be liable on any outstanding note he signed and the mortgage would serve as a lien on the real estate as collateral for any mortgage note he signed.
