Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

Roommate Feud

My boyfriend just started renting an apartment with two other guys. I have my own place but I spend most of my free time at his place (eating meals, sleeping) One of his roommates approached him saying he has a problem with me being there. How much power does he have over the situation if the other roommate doesnt mind my being there? Should we be afraid that my boyfriend is going to be evicted if I dont spend less time at the apartment especially if the other roommate has no complaints? Am I violating a law by being there?

Re: Roommate Feud

I believe that the room mate is correct. The places was rented to 3 people. While an occasional visit should not cause a problem. A room mate can legitimately protest that when an intermitent guest becomes a fixture.

The room mate did not bargain for the extra person, not should the room mate be required to have the space taken.

WHile you are not violating the law, you may be violating the rental agreement that usually address this general issue.

From the tone of your letter, I suggest that you and your boyfriend either reconsider the amount of time spent, or make arrangements to set up your ow n hosehold elsewhere.

There is no reason for any of you to live in a situation that engenders so much conflict, especially when the turmoil is sourced in your direction.
