Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts
I had a tenant move out about six months ago, and he owed me $4,000. in back rent. How can I collect this money now? Thanks

You file a collection action in housing or District court. Or you turn it over to a collection law firm that will sue for the money. Make sure you properly credit the Tenant for any deposits he made. Send a demand letter for payment and then sue the tenant.
I assume you had a lease and can document the tenants abandonment of the premises. Also, I assume you attempted to re-lease the property to mitigate any damages from his leaving early under the lease.
Good Luck
Retain an attorney to locate the tenant and file an appropriate collection action. Good Luck!
If the tenant is ignoring your demands, you will have to file suit against him or her in court. You will need to file in the District Court. If you already have a judgment/execution against your Tenant, you will need to file Supplementary Process.
