You have to inform Soc Sec with a copy of your legal name change, it does not change your marital status but it may cause confusion in the future. You also need to keep a certificed copy of the judgment changing your name and record it so there is a record of it on your title. You will have to give a copy of the order to the bank and change your name on the account.

You will need to file a Petition for Name Change in the Probate & Family Court.

Once the name change has been allowed, you will then be able to effectively notify your various financial institutions, apply for a new passport and driver's license, etc. A certified copy of the order granting your name change will suffice to clear title when it is time to sell or refinance.

If you would like some assistance, our firm charges a reasonable flat rate for name changes.
