Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Massachusetts
i have to interact with a city employee that gives me a veterans stipend - when i met him in march, i was recently released from a hospital, depressed and on meds.. my state of being was not where it currently is ... he asked me to have lunch with him on 2 Jul ..and did not take my nos as an answer... he crossed the line during the time we were out . .. i hate i did not see it coming.. he called an stated that he came to the office after the holiday and looked at the military posters and his placards and felt he took advantage of my vulnerability... i still have to go to this guy each month and he treats me as though i am supposed to enjoy being in his presence - not be angry- my request to have my check mailed to me -- he can not do -- i am not physically disabled and not over 65 so it is not according to regulation ... i took another veteran with me in august cause i did not want to be in the office alone--- that went over like a led balloon --- med: i did not take another pill since the 2nd July... and i have changed doctors (trying to get my flight attendant position restored, the events that led to my sadness = 2 family deaths Aug then sep of '08; moving six times in a state that i am not from...have all stabilized)... my current set of doctors at the va hospital do not see the need for me to be medicated, having taken steps to balance the ''once in a life time ''' type of stresses that hit my life all at once during our company merger and annual training.... do i have any recourse ???? I would want to get a much clearer picture of the events you describe before reaching any firm conclusions, but, there are likely a number of steps that you could take to address this situation. Initial steps might be to complain to the man's supervisor, complain to the mayors office or file a complaint with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. Before taking any action, you would do well to consult with an attorney with experience in this area.
