Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Massachusetts
Payment of severance package after negotiated sexual harassment settlement
My employer and I have settled on a severance package in lieu of me filing a formal sexual harassment case against them. The problem is that I don't trust them. I mean why should I. Is there a legal time limit that I should receive payment of the severance agreement from them before I become concerned?

First, if you have reached an agreement with the company under which you will receive severance, it should be in writing. That way, you're protected in case they reneg on their promises. As for a time period, it can be anything both you and the company agree upon, and it should be incorporated into the written agreement.

The agreement should say when payment is due. If not, company has a "reqasonable" time to pay. I would call them and ask when payment will be made. Sexual harassment claims can be brought only for six months after the last act of discrimination. If six months hasn't gone bye and you havent been paid, you can bring a claim of sexual harassment. If six months has gone bye, you can sue on the written settlement agreement.
