Legal Question in Tax Law in Massachusetts
Bank Levy on joint account
Last week, I found out my boyfriends bank account was frozen due to back cigarette taxes from a few years ago. Is this legal? I am on the account, but I have not worked in almost 2 years and he is the one who pays all the bills. The account was frozen on Wednesday and he was not notified until Saturday why. They said it will remain frozen until 11-3, we can't go that long without paying bills. All of his bills are bouncing (including rent), he has direct deposit and no bills are coming out, money can only go in. The state didn't even take the money out of the account yet. What can we do?

Contact the State and try to work out a payment plan.
